Uncle Charles

Our Uncle Charles passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 (he's the one on the far right with mom's three cousins). When mom and Nanny first moved to FL we stayed with him for a few days until our house was ready. He was our mom's favorite uncle. Our Nanny would drive to FL at least twice each year to visit with her brother - they were very close. He was one of the reasons mom and Nanny moved to where we are in FL - they wanted to be close to Uncle Charles. He helped mom, Nanny and mom's brother bring the our boat down the intercostal waterway from Virginia. Although he had slowed down a bit in the past couple of years he was always fun when he camed to visit, always giving us pets. We are going to miss him a lot. He will be buried in the Bushnell National Cemetery. He and Nanny are now together again having the greatest visit of all time.

Escape Attempt - Foiled

I almost made my escape but for the big dude that lives here I probably would have gotten away with it. It's very curious and no one can explain what happened but just the other day I ended up on the back steps just outside my sun room. The big dude asked Mom "How did Stray Kitty get out?" Of course Mom said "HuH?" You see she went out the front door, walking Tipper, and the big dude found me on the back steps. Needless to say I've been on strict house arrest every since - but I'm making the most of it. I've been crying and crying to be let out again but the Mom says "No way that's going to happen!" I don't know what all the fuss is about I mean afterall I didn't go very far and I really didn't try to run away - I really do like it here. Can you tell! On a comfort level of 0 to 10, I'd say this is a 10.

Happy Birthday to our MOM! She will be ?4 today (we promised not to reveal the decades) so you'll just have to guess. Anyway we think she's older than the hills but she says not quite. We planning a quiet little get together. We are going to have all her favorites (and ours too) - shrimps, chickens, steaks, milk, and whatever else we can find. A Year Younger

Mom discovered in some paperwork that our old vet in Virginia guessed that I was born around May 1, 1995. So that makes me only 15 years old this year. While I've been through a lot in my 15 years I got to tell you that finding out I'm a year younger is kinda nice. We are going to have a party with all the fixins. The buffet table is being readied for a weekend of food and fun. Waiting to cater to your every need is:

Lesson Learned

Hey Stray, how are you feeling today?

I'm OK Tipper but frankly I hope you learned a lesson. A "ride" in the car is not what it's cracked up to be. Doc was real thorough and he poked me and proded me in every orifice and then had the nerve to shoot me twice. I don't want to go back if you know what I mean. But, I heard you screaming like a little girl when he cut your nails. Everyone in the whole place heard you screaming. What the heck!

I was fine when he cut the nails on my front paws but then the lady was holding me and I got my back leg stuck between the table and her body and when Doc pulled on the other back leg I just had to let him know that I wasn't meant to be stretched like a rubber band. Mom saw what was happening and once my leg was free I was fine. I have to admit though that my toes feel much better since my manicure. The vet lady was real concerned that maybe I hurt my leg but shucks I'm tough as nails (get it "tough as nails")! Besides my screams also got me a real nice treat.

Well I didn't get a treat till we got home and my butt is still a little sore from the two shots but next time she brings out the carriers I'm going to hide under the bed.

The trip to the vet went fine. Both Stray Kitty and Tipper were well behaved on the ride but I guess I've got to figure out a way to make sure Stray had done his business before we go anywhere. Again this time he left a present in the carrier that had to be cleaned up when we got to the vet.

VET Warning

After I phoned the Vet to make an appointment for Stray Kitty and Tipper I overheard the following conversation:

Hey Stray Kitty, mom says we get to go for a ride tomorrow. Aren't you excited? I love to ride in the car.

I wouldn't be so happy if I were you Tipper. I saw the carriers pulled out of storage. We're probably going to get stuffed inside and I suspect that means we're going to the vet. At least she's learned something from some of my earlier trips to the vet because this time she has an afternoon appointment. One time I went to the vet I exacted my revenge and Mom spent the rest of the morning cleaning up the carrier. Ha! Ha! I got the last laugh.

Well that can't be it! I don't need to go to the vet. I'm just fine although I did hear her say something about my nails getting too long but it must be something else. Maybe we're taking a trip or going to visit some friends.

Dream on little dreamer. If we were going on a trip she would have gotten all the carriers out not just two. That means that one of us is not going and since she got out the big carrier and that little one it means just you and me babe! Midnite is staying home!

Well I hope you're wrong because I don't like getting my nails trimmed. I tried to bite the Vet the last time and he just laughed because he said my bark was worse that my bite. Do you think my bark is bad?

I don't know about your bark but for sure your bite is not bad!

My View is Gone!

This is what I could see when I went on our screen porch. I could see the grass, the birds and bees, all my lizzard friends and anything that dared to come into my yard. I really loved my screen porch. It was warm and sunny in the summer and cool during the winter. Sometime is got too hot and sometimes it got too cool but most of the time it was just right.

Then one day the woman got a crazy idea. Why don't we enclose the porch and make it a guest room so that peoples who visit could sleep there. Although I protested, cause I slept there just fine, she went ahead with her evil plan and deconstructed my beautiful sunny screen porch.
See what she done . My porch is now a room with a view! Although she remembered I likes to look outside and putted in lots of windows - my screen porch just ain't the same.

Mom here: Stray Kitty spends more time in the room now than he did before we enclosed it. It's much nicer and we added a daybed so that both he and Midnite can take their pick of that or the small couch. We did not ignore that they like to look out windows and put in four so there would be no fighting over which one got which window. They even have their own TV so they can watch "Animal Planet" whenever they want. I should have it so good!

Celebrating Nanny

Today, January 18th, would have been our sweet Nanny's 87th birthday. We really miss her. She was really a nice lady and always made room for us on her couch when she was sitting or even when she was napping.

ICE Anyone?

We got's ICE. After all the hoopla about snow all we got was ice. Shucks we gots ice in the frigerator. It's still very cold but we are hunkered down and waiting for the thaw. Supposed to get warmer by the end of the week - we sure hope so! Poor Tipper had to go outside to do her business and boy was she unhappy. Every time she came back in she headed right for the couch and dove under the blanket. Litter boxes rock!!!!

SNOW - SAY IT AIN'T SO!

SNOW! That's just not right. There's not supposed to be snow in Florida. Florida is the "Sunshine State". But we's been having a real cold spell for the past week. There's ice in the outside water bowl and frost on the ground. Oranges are freezing on the trees. Peoples are storming the grocery stores loading up on all the essentials just in case it. There has been a run on milk, bread, TP, beers, crunchies and munchies. We gots plenty of good stuff and are prepared to hunker down just in case we gets snowed in. Stray Kitty has never seen snow but Midnite is an old pro and knows just what to do. Find a nice warm spot, curl up and relax. They are already practicing their best lounging positions in the sun room. Notice the nice stack of throws, afgans and blankets Stray has staked out. Stay warm friends!

Holiday Spirit

Here we are checking out our fake tree last Christmas. Mom has decided not to put up the tree this year and is trying to get in the holiday spirit but she can't seem to. We are saddened that we won't be able to climb the tree and play with the lights but we understand. May the Christmas season bring you joyful moments, warm memories and very special happiness!

HEAVY HEART

It is with great sadness that we tell you that our beloved "Nanny" (our mom's mommy) died suddenly on November 26th. She was 85 years old and had some health issues but she was rallying after fighting off a round of pneumonia . Mom's eyes have not stopped leaking and we are trying our best to comfort her. Our Nanny and mom lived together since 1989 and they were very close. Our mom took Nanny back to Virginia for burial and left us here alone. We honored Nanny by being good and not trashing the house while mom was gone. Mom says we can have a celebration of Nanny's life (maybe with house trashing?) and then maybe mom will feel like getting back to helping us with our blog.

A New Tail

This is what mom brought home from the vet. Can you believe it - after years with just us cats, mom went and did the unthinkable. Her name is Tipper. She has four white paws, a patch of white on her chin and some white on her chest. We didn't even get a vote on whether there should be a new addition. Guess there's nothing we can do about it now. She is starting to grow on us a bit. Maybe we'll give her a chance.
She was born on March 18, 2008.
She is tiny - mom could hold her in the palm of her hand.
SK seems to like her some.
Midnite is still deciding but right now Midnite swats at her when she get close.

A Trip to the Vet!

I had to go to the vet for my regular shots. The vet stuck me twice and checked me over real good and thinks I'm in pretty good shape. More important while we were at the vet mom picked up something! Can you guess what it is? Some clues:

It is mostly black - just like me - but has some white like Stray Kitty!
It's a girl - just like me!
It's very small!
It won't get a lot bigger - probably not as big as me!
I can tell you already I don't care too much for it!
It whines a lot.

We're OK - we've even gotten a little closer since all the stuff with the neighbor started. Mom has been very busy with taking care of our Nanny (she's 85 and gots lots of human ailments which translate into a bunches of trips to doctors and all sorts of different tests). Not a lot of other things happening - we do have some things to tell you about but we won't try to tell all today. First, the neighbor continues to act "stoopid" but we are just ignoring him! We think he is following the court order to be on his meds and check in with his shrink. Nuf said on that subject! Other things we got to tell you about:

Justice

The neighbor's trial was today. Mom's brother consulted with the State Attorney and the results were almost everything we hoped for. He was fined for the assault, ordered to attend six months (twice weekly) of anger management training (at his own expense) and is subject to periodic unscheduled reviews for up to one year to ensure that he is taking his medications and seeing his therapist. The No Contact order was also extended as an added protection against him bothering us again. Mom is relieved and hopes that we can begin to get back to normal. The stress of this situation has added a few more gray hairs to mom's head. We are going to take this weekend to unwind, maybe watch a little football, and let our hair down. We want to thank everyone for checking on us and for your prayers. We are very greatful for all the support and caring and hope to get back to regular blogging and commenting.

United Front

A lot has happened since we abandoned the search for our Christmas presents. The neighbor was released from jail and was given a "no contact" order from the State Attorney. He continues his obsession with our cable and telephone lines - the day after he was released from jail he called in a electrician to check them out. Mom yelled at them and the electrician made a quick exit. He has a plea negotiation conference on January 22nd as a result of the assault on mom's brother. Mom thinks he is just laying low until that is over and then will be right back to his old ways. He has some major issues which really need professional attention - but no one in his family seems willing or able to do anything about it. There is so much more going on even we have trouble believing some of the things he has done. Last week as an addition to our security system mom had a video surveillance system installed. Mom thinks it's only a matter of time before he does something and she hopes this time to catch him in the act (smile you're on MomCam). We want to take this opportunity to say a big "THANKS" to everyone who has kept us in their prayers and thoughts. Special thank you to Pearl, Bert & Jake of PB&J Is My Favorite for the Extraordinary Gold Star Special Award. We are honored and appreciate so much the care and concern of everyone. To our dear sweet NOMSSF, PerfectTosca, please don't bite your foot. We miss not being able to post everyday or to visit our friends but we will weather this storm and be back. We stand united - can you believe mom got us both in the same picture.

Search Delayed

We may have to delay our search for Christmas presents for a little while. The situation with our neighbor has gotten out of control. Yesterday he was again digging in the ground around the phone and cable line. Mom thinks that he was going to try to cut the lines again but my have gotten bitten by the electricity in the phone line that stopped him short. Mom was smart this time and got photos of him doing the deed. Then just a short while later mom's brother was walking his dog and the neighbor attacked mom's brother. The neighbor was arrested. Since we now have several "incidents" she's going to go back to the State Attorney and see if there is now enough to do something about him. We'll be back!

Repeat of Yesterday

This is what I did after I woke mom early yesterday. I went back to sleep. Mom says that she likes to sleep later than 6:30 because for years and years she got up at 4:00 a.m. to go to work. Now that she's retired she trying to catch up on all that sleep she lost when she was working. I'm not buying it though - I work her early this morning too.

SK - headache

I've got such a headache today. First, mom says I woke her up much too early this morning. OK, so it was 6:30 - I don't think that's too early do you? Then everytime I moved it was - "Stray don't do that", then it was "Stray Kitty get down from the cabinets", and then was "if you don't stop chasing Midnite I'm going to spray you". Gee! I don't know what can I do anymore.

Last Laugh is Mine

Last week mom took me to the VET for a regular check-up. I was not yet wise to the way of the PTU and eagerly got inside. Little did I know that by volunteering to go inside I would end up being torchered and prodded and stuck, not once but twice. Little did mom know that an early morning appointment does not go well with my toilet habits. I was very tired after my appointment but mom was busy cleaning the carrier and trying to get the stink out of the car. I got the last laugh!

Cat's Out of the Bag

It's time to let the cat out of the bag - so to speak. We've been under the radar for a while because of a "crazy" situation with our next door neighbor. He managed to disrupt our internet and telephone service. He wants to fight with our mom and she just tries to ignore his threats and verbal abuse. Mom has talked a variety of officials (Sheriff, State Attorney) but there is not much that can be done. She will continue to try to avoid contact with him and hope that he will leave us alone but she knows she can't control what he might do. In the mean time - we're going to try to get things back to normal for us. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to check on us and for your kind comments.

Pet Me Please

Midnite has the sweetest disposition - even though we got of to a bumpy start. She was so angry when we trapped her in the field behind our house in Virginia - wouldn't let anyone touch her, cried and clawed to get out of the temporary cage we set up for her. I initially used gloves when I tried to pet her - knowing that she was not happy about being trapped. She hissed everytime I came near her. It took several days of gentle pettting and soft discussion before she clamed down enough for me to bring her out of the cage. But now she's a totally different cat. Here she is standing beside nanny's chair gently reaching over to get nanny to pet her.

Remember when I was helping mom look for something in her office that she lost. Well, she finally found it! Actually if truth be told - it found her. It was a "check". It showed up in the bank statement. She thought she had lost a check - but apparently she actually wrote the check and mailed it but didn't record it in the check register. It took her several hours to reconcile the statement and fix the checkbook. Bet she'll be more careful in the future.

Stray Kitty (SK)

Today is Stray Kitty's (SK) Gotcha Day and mom got him this beautiful Halloween Gizzy quilt. I think I look much better on it but it's his. SK is going to be so surprised. Mom said in our first post that SK came two years ago - and boy it does seem that long to me but actually he showed up just last year. Do you think that if mom lets SK go trick or treating this year he'll find another cat to torment. I'm going to hide in case another kitty shows up this year.

Good News

Imagine our surprise! We have been off line for a couple of days while mom has been setting up a new computer. We are honored that our NOMSSF, Tosca, loves our blog and gave us this award. Thank You Tosca we love you too!

We are feeling especially blessed - mom's bestest friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer had surgery on the 19th of this month. The good news is that the cancer was smaller than originally thought by the doctors and they have released her from any further treatment. She will not have to endure radiation - just follow-up mammograms.

Stray Kitty's Gotcha Day is coming up on October 31st. The little brat has been tormenting me for almost a full year now. I'm thinking that maybe he'll decide to go "trick or treating" at another house this year but mom says - That's not going to happen! A gal can dream, can't she!

Hitchhiker

This is a story of another all black kittie named Hitchhiker. He was Nanny's kittie and lived almost 17 years. Hitchhiker was quite the character. First, how he got his name. Nanny and mom were on a trip one summer to visit a cousin and attend a wedding in Atlanta. They stopped at a Burger King for a breakfast sandwich one morning. They went to the drive-up window and placed their order and Nanny saw this rather pathetic looking fur ball begging for something to eat as each car drove to the pick-up window. Nanny was worried that the poor thing was going to get killed but mom, who already had three kitties, didn't want another. Nanny kept saying that the baby was going to get run over and mom kept saying "I don't want another cat." Finally, mom asked Nanny if she wanted the baby and she said Yes. So mom picked him up, he didn't even try to run away, and off they went to Atlanta. They stopped on the way and picked up some food, a food dish, litter box, and litter and he knew exactly what to do. As they drove along they decided he was their little Hitchhiker - hence his name. Hitchhiker travelled with Nanny a lot and he was a great companion for her in the car. Nanny who is from Arkansas would drive home every summer and Hitchhiker would make the trips with her. Often he would climb up on her shoulders and just drift off to sleep draped across them as she drove. Once a trucker saw that and the next thing Nanny knows she's the talk on the CB radio. One trucker telling another to "check out" the cat in the black Chrysler. Nanny and Hitchhiker put on a lot of miles together and he loved every minute of it.

Memory Card

Oh, No! She boughted a BIG memory card for her camera. That means more flashies. With the new card, the camera shows it can store up to 825 pictures. We ain't never gonna get no rest now. Midnite doesn't like to have her picture taken - she hates the flashie thing and has taken to running away when the camera comes out. Mom will just have to try the sneak attack.

Mom here: I found another setting on the camera where the flash does not bother Midnite as much. She actually cooperated and allowed me to take a bunch of photos on Sunday. I think she might be jealous of all the attention Stray Kitty is getting.

Follow the Sun

I loves the sun. The best place is on the screen porch because it gets the afternoon sun - but I'll take the sun anywhere I can find it. There's a sliding glass door to our porch but mom founded a insert that fits in the door that has a cat door just for us. Mom gets to stay indoors in the AC and we gets to go outside to bask and worship the sun.

Much to my dismay, Stray Kitty is feeling much better after several days on the Calvamox. He wants to say Thanks to everyone who stopped by and checked up on him.

Cold

Stray Kitty has a cold. The v-e-t didn't need to see him because of the way mom described his symptoms. He has to take a dropper of Clavamox twice a day. Mom said the v-e-t told her he should be fine and back to his old self again soon - like that's a good thing. It only means he'll be pouncing all over me again.

Stray Kitty - Not Up to Snuff

Stray Kitty is not feeling well. He's been laying around all day. He hasn't tried to pounce on me today at all - so mom knows something must be wrong. Mom founded some damp spots on her bed but it wasn't pee. She's going to call the v-e-t the first thing Friday and see if she can take him in. He's alert and still trying to bunny kick mom but he is just not himself. He's still eating temptations but mom hasn't seen him drink anything today. She's gong to be keeping a careful eye on the litterbox to see if anything shows up there. We will try to post something once we get back from the vet.

This is a screenshot of mom's desktop - pretty busy don't ya think. There's really no good explanation for why it is so cluttered except if you saw the picture of me helping her look for the "lost" thing in her office you'd understand. Mom's messy - nuf said. Actually she knows where everything is but her organization skills leave a lot to be desired. She downloads a lot of games for the great niece and nephew to play when they comes to visit. They particularly like to play "hidden object" games - so mom has a lot of those.

Mom didn't get around to our blogging friends much on Wednesday - she was doing laundry and straightening up around the house. We hopes she's done now and we can get back to the important things - visiting our fur friends.

Going Pink

In support of Gretchen's mom and all other cancer survivors we's going Pink. Our mom's bestest bestest friend was just diagnosed with breast cancer and we's purring and praying that her surgery on October 19th goes well.

Here I am helping mom get Nanny's weekly medications taken care of. Mom keeps Nanny's meds in this little pink tray. Every Tuesday night she put the meds in a little blue box and then hands them out three times each day. I'm making sure she gets things right!

Lost but Not Found

After we checked out of the Waldorf and got back home mom said she losted something important in the office. So being the good office assistant that I am I tried to help her find it. I don't know how anybody can be expected to find anything in this mess though. There's files and folders and boxes and bags all over the place. It's no wonder she still can't find it.

We want to thank all of our fur friends for dropping by and visiting with us at the hotel - a good time was has by all. Mom says that her credit card ain't broke yet and maybe we can go back again. We'll let you know.

Waldorf-Astoria

We are so excited. Maggy and Zoey at Zoolatry made this picture for us. Isn't it super! We's booked the penthouse suite at the Waldorf-Astoria and refreshment are on the way. Room service will be delivering tuna juice, shrimp, ham, tempations and anything else our fur friends can think of in just a few minutes. Come on over and join us - there'll be lots to go around. If we run out we can always order more - ain't room service great! What mom, OK we won't over do it - but we gots to have plenty for all our fur friends. My Favorite Toy - Midnite

This is my favorite toy. I can just sit and play with it for ever. Sometime mom turns it on but most of the time I like to just make it move by myself. It does not take much to amuse me. The good thing is that the little brat does not like as much as I do so I usually get it all to myself. Here I am studying which direction I want to move it next. When its moving on its own I just flop over on my side and wait for it to come to me. I'm not lazy, just good at conserving energy.

Midnite you can go first: I was truly a feral cat - when I got caughted I was mad as a wet hen. I hissed, I cried, I clawed to get out of the cage she put me in. She didn't want to let me in the house yet in case I was sick because there were three other cats in the house. Mom was patient and within three days I was like putty in her hands. She took me to the v-e-t and he pronounced me "healthy" so I got to go inside. I am pretty shy and usually don't come out when company comes - although since we've moved to Florida I find I visitors more tolerable.

SK (Stray Kitty) your turn: I really was not feral because I wasn't mad or mean when I arrived. I just walked in. If those kids hadn't be trick or treating at mom's house I probably would still be on the streets. Mom wasn't sure if she would keep me but she took me to the v-e-t and he said I was a strong mancat - end of story - I was staying.

Mom: I lived most of my life in Northern Virginia where I worked for 30 years for the US government. I retired 5 years ago and moved to Florida with my mom (Nanny) who is soon to be 85 years old and my brother. Nanny just went through a scare with kidney disease where she went on dialysis for about 3 months. She is now off and doing great.

Since we are so late with our meme we thinks most other folks have already been tagged. We'll try to do better next time.

Lighting Bolt

We was just sitting in the living room on Friday night when down from the sky came a big bolt of lighting and blew up a transformer on our street. Then everything went all dark. The mom was scrambling around looking for flashlights and candles. We just thought that's funny - we sees fine. It didn't take long for the lights to come back on - but then the mom found out that her modem was fried. She couldn't get on the internet. So we wasn't able to visit our blogging friends and we didn't get to go to Speedy's party. Mom had to wait till Monday morning to get a new modem from the cable company and she just got everything going again. We's had enought of these tunder storms - we can't go on the screened porch because it always gets wet and the sun goes away. We wants SUN! We wants SUN!

NEW THRONES

Whew! It's finally over. The plumber didn't come Monday but was here all day Tuesday. The camera didn't find anything too bad with the pipes - no roots or breaks - so we is lucky. Then Wednesday mom had to take her mom (Nanny) to get an access for dialysis removed - so mom's had a really busy week so far. Mom got some good suggestions on the plumbing problems from our friends in the blogosphere but this is what happened.

Yep! She gotted new thrones for the bathrooms. She says these whoosh really fast. We don't know from whoosh but if she stops pulling out her hairs then we thinks its OK.

Mom here: Stray Kitty doesn't like the new thrones - they are really do make a noise when the compressed air pushes the water out of the bowl. Not quite like an air plane but close. He ran out of the bathroom the first time he heard it. I think he'll get used to it.

We Didn't Do It

Well again today the mom is running around like a chicken with her head off.

Today is a repeat of yesterday. We's got plumbing problems and for two days in a row the plumbers are here.

It ain't our fault - we use the litter box.

We hopes that they can figure out what's going on because the mom is pulling out some hairs what with company coming and all that - and she don't got a lot of hairs like us. We hears they's going to be back on Monday to put some new thingies in the bathroom and run a camera in the lines - so they will be here three days. We's got to go get ready for our close ups. New bloggers

Hi everyone! After much debate we finally got the mom to try this blogging thing. We's not really sure what took her so long since she's done nothin but read blogs for months. We got stuff to say and we wants to talk to other kitties an peoples on the blogs. Mom says we need to tell somethin about us so here goes--

I's Midnite, a 14 year old black kitty. When my mom lived in virginnia she saw me in a field behind her house and caughted me. She already had a kitty but she made room for me. Five years ago me, mom and the other kitty moved to florida. The other kitty went to the bridge and I was really lonely. So on halloween two years ago while the mom was givin candy to some little kids in walks this boy kitty. He just came right in the door and made hisself at home. He didn't act like he wanted to leave so he just moved in. He had an advantage though because he looked a lot like theone than went to the bridge so the mom let him stay. I can't say I'm always happy about that!

OK! Midnite I'll take over from here. I'm Stray Kitty! Yep, I just moved right in. I's the king of the castle - just don't tell Midnite. OK, she's the Queen and I'm just one of her subjects but I can dream. I'm about two years old and I'm all boy. Although my name is "Stray Kitty" I don't feel like a stray. The mom here takes real good care of me and my sister and although I try to be good I'm really just learning all bout how to get along with my sister. I want to play and she's just crabby! We are indoor only cats but we has a really nice screened poorch where we can watch the birdies, buggies and lizzards. Well that's enuf for now. We'll try to make the mom keep up with this blogging thing and tell you some more about us next time.
